MicroStrategy continues aggressive Bitcoin strategy with new multimillion-dollar purchase
In a major development in the corporate Bitcoin space, MicroStrategy Incorporated, doing business as Strategy, has announced the acquisition of 6,556 Bitcoins for approximately $555.8 million between April 14 and April 20, 2025, according to its latest Form 8-K filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
“This acquisition was funded through the company’s Common ATM and STRK ATM equity offering programs,” the report confirmed.
Acquisition Breakdown
The latest purchase was executed at an average price of $84,785 per Bitcoin, closely aligning with Bitcoin’s current trading range near $85,000. The company used proceeds from the sale of:
- 1,755,000 shares of MSTR common stock, raising $547.7 million, and
- 91,213 shares of Series A preferred stock (STRK), raising $7.8 million.
This brings Strategy’s total Bitcoin holdings to 538,200 BTC, valued at a cumulative acquisition cost of $36.47 billion, with an average price per BTC of $67,766.
2025 Bitcoin Buying Spree Continues
This latest move follows Strategy’s recent acquisition of 3,459 BTC on April 14, which marked its first BTC purchase since March 31, 2025—breaking a brief pause in its usual acquisition rhythm.
To date, the company has acquired 91,800 BTC in 2025 alone, representing approximately 17% of its total Bitcoin stash.
“This aggressive accumulation strategy underscores our confidence in Bitcoin as a long-term store of value,” Strategy stated in its communication.
Strategic Context and Market Outlook
This acquisition reaffirms Strategy's unwavering belief in Bitcoin as its primary treasury asset. By leveraging both retail and institutional capital markets via ATM offerings, the company continues to translate equity into digital assets at scale.
In the backdrop of Bitcoin’s bullish trajectory nearing $85,000, this purchase also aligns with broader corporate interest in cryptocurrency as a hedge against fiat volatility.
