Anchorage Digital Named Custodian for BlackRock’s Expanding Digital Asset Strategy

BlackRock, the world’s largest asset manager, is accelerating its digital asset strategy by integrating with Anchorage Digital Bank. This partnership marks a significant expansion of their ongoing relationship, offering BlackRock access to regulated digital asset custody, staking, on-chain settlement, and governance—services provided by the only federally chartered crypto bank in the United States.

In a statement released on April 8, Anchorage Digital announced its selection as the latest digital asset services provider for BlackRock. This decision follows a rigorous formal evaluation process and comes amid increasing demand for secure custody solutions from both institutional and retail investors.

“A new standard for personalized access to the digital asset class,” stated a spokesperson from Anchorage Digital, emphasizing the innovative nature of the collaboration.

Supporting Billions in Crypto Holdings

BlackRock, which manages $11.6 trillion in assets, has emerged as one of the largest providers of crypto exchange-traded products (ETPs). According to Arkham, BlackRock’s crypto-related ETP holdings amount to over $43.95 billion in Bitcoin (BTC) and $1.71 billion in Ether (ETH). The addition of Anchorage Digital as a new custodian will ensure the robust and secure management of these significant digital asset holdings.

A Strategic Leap Toward Institutionalization

This move is a key component of BlackRock’s ongoing efforts to institutionalize digital assets. By combining comprehensive regulatory oversight with advanced technological infrastructure, BlackRock is setting a benchmark in how traditional finance can securely engage with the evolving digital asset landscape.

Anchorage Digital’s designation as a pivotal infrastructure provider cements its role in supporting one of the largest crypto adoption efforts in institutional finance to date.
